Fat Cod Backpackers

I've been back to this hostel for three separate stays of several nights while passing through Picton, going back to 2016. The owners and staff keep impressing me. Racheal, one of the owners, is the sweetest and works hard to make you feel at home. They're also incredibly helpful with anything you need around the area, and usually leave some kind of baked goods for breakfast. The rooms are big, clean and nice, and the shared spaces are welcoming. Laundry is cheap, the fireplace is cozy, the entertainment area is well stocked, and the showers and bathrooms get a thorough clean every day. For the price, it's hard to beat. I first stumbled on this gem during my backpacking trip. I have no affiliation with them, just a happy repeat guest.

I stayed here for quite a while and had such a great time. It's one of my favourite hostels in NZ, and I can only recommend it. The staff and management are friendly and very helpful, the facilities are perfectly fine, and the furniture is extremely comfortable. The ferry terminal and seaside are both very close.

After a rough ferry crossing, Rachelle's warm welcome was just what I needed. The rooms were tidy and the price reasonable, with shops and the waterfront nearby. She was also helpful with ideas for local walks. I felt so welcome I was sad to go. Devon, the manager, was a hoot, and Esther went above and beyond to help. I'll definitely be back, I'm sure.

I've stayed at a couple of places in Picton, and this is easily the best in town. It was clean, tidy and quiet, with a great atmosphere, and the value for money was fantastic. The accommodation itself was great, and it's the best backpackers I've stayed in. The staff were extremely helpful, with Devon especially on top of things when it came to running the business.
