I was grateful they had a room available for my last-minute trip and could fit me in. I stayed over a week in QT, and the location was great for getting around, with tours bookable at the hostel and friendly, helpful staff for the most part. There’s plenty of nightlife nearby, though, so it can get rowdy. Bring earplugs. My main frustration was the 10 am checkout. For a longer stay, it was rough when I wanted to sleep in and the housekeepers came in and talked loudly in their own language, seemingly without regard for guests. I also had some rude interactions when my suitcase was in the way of cleaning. Security could have been better too, with clearer guidance on handling issues. One night, some sketchy guys kept everyone in my room awake. If you’re an early riser staying only a couple of nights, it might suit you. If you want somewhere quieter, look elsewhere.

The staff were lovely, and the place is right in the centre of town at a good price. Best hostel I’ve stayed in in NZ. The eight-bed dorm setup was spot on: curtains at every bed, a little light, two plugs, and storage. The bathroom was clean, with paper towels, lots of shower hooks, a mat, and a separate changing area in the cubicle. They even provide towels. Can’t recommend it enough.

I came here to start my month in New Zealand and have already booked a return. The waterfront location is unbeatable, and the staff were super helpful. The kitchen is very well equipped, and eating by an open window overlooking the lake felt like my own four-star restaurant. The place was clean, modern, and comfortable. Most guests were much younger than me, but everyone was welcoming and it never got too noisy at night.

The rooms were nice and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I also liked the free things in the communal kitchen. The location and views are perfect. The soundproofing could be better, though. There are several bars right outside, and one night I could hear people partying until 1 am. Thankfully it only happened that once, so maybe it was an exception.

We really enjoyed our stay at Absoloot Hostel and would happily recommend it. We stayed in two rooms from 09.11-20.11, first a double with an en-suite, then a four-bed dorm with one. Both were clean and comfortable, and had a mini fridge and kettle. The views were spectacular, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Even though the hostel is right in the middle of things, it was very quiet after 10 pm. We didn’t have a car, but walked around town and went on several hikes. Queenstown Hill and Ben Lomond were great. We also borrowed frisbees from the front desk for free and played several rounds of frisbee golf at the course in Queenstown Gardens. The Orbus stop is only a short walk away, which was handy for trips further out. We used a Bee card to save money on the bus. Breakfast each morning was a nice chance to meet some lovely people.
