Breakfree Highview

The location worked well for us, about 800 metres from central Queenstown. We didn’t mind walking back up the hill after dinner and drinks. Staff were welcoming, and both check-in and checkout were easy. Our room was serviced every other day, so I’m not sure why other reviews say there’s no room service. It was fresh and tidy, with a lovely lake view to wake up to. We stayed six nights and appreciated the air conditioning, gas heater, heated kitchen and bathroom tiles, small kitchenette, and washing machine. The one downside was the shower: I think our room was set up for wheelchair access, with a curtain instead of glass, so water got onto the floor and we had to use a squeegee. Still, avoiding stairs was a plus, and it’s good to have that accessible option for anyone who needs it.

Everything was very comfortable, from the bed to the couches, and the apartment was spotless with a spectacular view. We also made good use of the washer-dryer combo. The staff were great, from check-in through housekeeping, and we absolutely loved our stay.

It was quiet, clean, tidy, and new, though not very big. We had two twin singles and a late check-in, and it suited us perfectly. The room faced a pleasant little outlook by the car park, not the lake, but that didn’t bother us. Beds were comfortable, on the softer side. We paid NZD 230 for one night.

Parking was a real struggle: there aren’t enough spaces for the number of rooms, and finding a spot on the road seems unlikely. The apartment itself was clean and comfortable, with magnificent views across the lake to the Remarkables. Walking back from town is steep, though Queenstown seems steep everywhere.
