The Waterfront

The view from the studio penthouse was spectacular, and it’s within walking distance of the town centre. I stayed two nights in February 2026 and paid $1092 AUD. It was nice, but for a penthouse I expected a few more little extras. There was only black tea, while a wider tea selection, perhaps herbal or green, would have been a nice touch for international travellers. Of the 17 places I stayed in NZ, this was the only one that didn’t offer early check-in. After a long drive, I’d hoped to get in just one hour early. The car park is very tight, especially if people with big cars have parked before you arrive.

Our two-bedroom apartment had a spectacular, picturesque view from the Juliet balcony, and was comfortable for our stay. It was well appointed, with a kitchen, two bathrooms and spacious living areas. Restaurants, shops, the steamer wharf and a convenience store were an easy walk away. The location was very handy, and we’d definitely stay again.

If you want to nearly experience a fire, shower in total darkness, and deal with rude, unprofessional service, then by all means choose this apartment. It’s overpriced and very cheap in quality, and there’s even a risk of getting 💥. The location and view are great, though.

We’re back for a second stay and loved it just as much as the first. The location is excellent and the service outstanding. A truly wonderful place, thanks for another great experience!
