Voco Queenstown by IHG Hotel

The hotel’s artistic front porch stood out, with lovely views of the gondolas, and the shopping streets were about a 10-minute walk away. Still, our stay of more than three days, including Lunar New Year, was underwhelming. Our tour group’s rooms were misarranged, and one staff member, who appeared Asian, was rude when we didn’t realize the rooms were too small for three guests. Though we’re Asians from different countries, the attitude felt unfair. Most of us were placed on the second floor without scenic views. Even as IHG members, we couldn’t get upgrades. The beds were soft but too warm, and the bathrooms and breakfast were decent, nothing special.

The location is very convenient, and the staff were friendly and professional. Rooms are clean, new, and well equipped. Just be aware that frosted glass partitions separate the bathroom from the bedroom, which might bother some people. Breakfast is included, but the choices are limited and the quality isn’t great. If you need a good breakfast, I’d skip it and walk into town. Toast and weak coffee might suit you, and there are also cereal, yogurt, and scrambled eggs. Guest parking is limited, though staff can point you to street parking. It may be a bit of a walk, but you can usually pull up to the hotel for 10 minutes to unload luggage before moving the car.

Every staff member I met was so lovely, and the whole team’s positive energy and care made things comfortable and easy. Olivia at reception deserves a special mention. She was amazing, friendly, helpful, and patient, and made a great first impression when I arrived with my parents. Thanks to the team for going above and beyond. We had a wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Express, and I’ll definitely return and recommend it to everyone.

The room was comfortable and we were upgraded to a suite with a nice mountain view, a convenient little kitchen, and a well-designed bathroom. It was surprising that the bathroom had no ventilation fan. The location made it easy to walk to most Queenstown attractions, which matters when parking is such a problem. Parking was a poor experience. It cost NZD 25 per day with no waiver, required online enrollment and advance payment, and the small garage could be hard to find a space in for a hotel of this size. The free breakfast was awful, with very limited options and quality and taste below expectations.
