My steak, fried egg, and chips were okay, but very expensive. I expected some vegetables with the steak, but there weren't any. My husband's schnitzel was so tough he could barely eat it. We saw only two other people while we were there, and the place looked almost empty. It made me wonder why, especially since the public bar seemed to have most people. We won't be back.

The staff we met were all friendly and obliging, and we were happy to leave our bikes secured around the back with the pub's other things. We were four women cycling the Otago Rail Trail and had a pleasant stay at the Ranfurly Pub. The two twin rooms were roomy, with handbasins, comfortable beds, and good linen. One opened onto the street-facing verandah, which you could also reach from the lounge. Bathrooms were along the hall, a bit old and average, but adequate. Everything was clean, and there was no old-pub smell. The lounge had armchairs, a couch, and tea and coffee facilities, with long-life milk in the fridge. Continental breakfast was included, help yourself, and our pub dinners of nachos and wedges were fine. It's an old pub in a small town, not 5-star, but we enjoyed our stay and would come back.

We didn't stay overnight, but had a fantastic meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. 10/10, guys, we'll come back and stay next time.

Passing through town on 8/15/2025, I was looking for a one-night stay. An older woman with short blondish hair, missing some bottom teeth, gave me the worst customer service. I was tired but patient, and still asked if I could see the room before booking. She said no, so I went somewhere else. Basic courtesy and common sense were missing.

We were too full for dessert, but dinner was great. I had steak, eggs, and chips with mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. My mother got the beef burger and chips, and it was nicely filling with a really soft, fresh bun. The house sav was really nice too.
