Gladstone Motel Nelson

We had a two-bedroom unit, and it was spacious, spotless, and surprisingly quiet despite the busy road nearby. The owner was so understanding when we arrived two hours after check-in had closed, even though we kept her up late. After some pretty average stays lately, this felt like a treat. We'd happily come back and recommend it.

I cancelled with several days to spare, but Mike and Lesley still kept my $229 under their so-called 10-day holiday policy. In busy Richmond at Christmas, I think they'll resell the room quickly and get paid twice. Richmond Motel & Holiday Park refunded my family in full for the same trip, so the difference in how we were treated was hard to miss. Gladstone was the only business that chose to keep the money, and I'd tell people to stay at Richmond Motel instead. Even Booking.com tried to help, according to the screenshot I attached, but Mike and Lesley wouldn't be reasonable. It feels like double-dipping on Christmas bookings. Lesley's reply confirmed they had nine full days to fill the room during the busiest week of the year. I expect they can sell it again, which would make keeping my $229 pure profit at my expense. Her condescending “hope you understand” comment said enough about how they treat people. I'll take my business to the fair management at Richmond Motel from now on.

We were only a five-minute walk from town, and the owner was helpful at check-in, explaining what was nearby. Our deluxe room was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed for a few nights.

The owners pointed us to some excellent places to eat, all within walking distance. Our room was big, very clean, and well equipped. Great stay, thanks. We'll see you again.
