We were so lucky to find this place. It was just right for us, peaceful and quiet, with wonderful hosts who made everything easy. The homestead has a lot of history, and the decor suits it. It's got great bones. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the hosts are very good in the kitchen. You can see lots of care going into the gardens and outdoor spaces. We'll stay here next time we're back in Russell.

Liz and Gordon are genuinely lovely hosts. The house is stunning, especially if you enjoy period architecture and all its little details. Grand hallways, ornate wallpaper, and a bed so comfortable I could have stayed in it all day. We had the garden room and loved it. I can only imagine how lovely the suite must be. We'll be back.

Marylin looked after us so well. She's an extraordinary quilter and makes a fabulous breakfast. One morning we had salmon and scrambled egg tortillas, and the next it was zucchini pancakes with bacon. Both were so tasty, and the homemade jam and bread were amazing too. It was our first experience of New Zealand hospitality, and it felt impressive, homely and welcoming. We'd return if we ever make it back to New Zealand. Thank you.

A wonderful experience all round. It's an amazing home, with lots of rooms to explore. The hosts were very accommodating, and the whole place was immaculate while still being easy to use.
