Stronechrubie Accommodation and Restaurant

The quiet setting and views of the Southern Alps are what make this place special. It’s also handy for exploring the Mid Canterbury back country, with Ashburton and Methven nearby. The restaurant team were very friendly, and the food was pleasant and reasonably good value. The rooms are showing their age, though they were generally comfortable.

Warm, clean and comfortable, with everything we needed, though the accommodation felt a bit tired. The service was friendly. The restaurant has a really cool feel and the service was good, but the food was pretty average for the price. There wasn’t much beer to choose from.

The dumplings were so good we ordered another round. The meals were fresh, full of flavour and clearly made with care, and the staff were welcoming, attentive and down to earth. It’s a warm, relaxed place with lovely people. We left very full and can’t wait to return!

Elizabeth at the front of house made the evening for our group of older diners. She was bubbly and so helpful. All seven couples enjoyed our few nights in the chalets and had plenty of praise for the stay. Nobody in the group had a complaint about dinner, either. The meal was excellent and totally yummy. Thanks for a lovely midwinter break away.
