Katy got in touch before check-in to tell me which unit we'd be in, where to find the keys, and to send the wifi details. That made arriving with my 12-year-old son really straightforward. We stayed one night before heading back to Auckland, and the spotless room had everything we needed. The shops and beaches are close by too. Thanks, we'll stay again next time we're down.

We found the motel clean and tidy, and reasonably priced. The beach was just a 500-metre walk away, which was a nice bonus. At Christmas, we were greeted warmly and found a little tree on the room counter, along with chips, kiwi dip, and a few other thoughtful treats. Those touches made the stay especially memorable.

The owners were lovely, and we'd happily recommend the place. There are outdoor dining facilities in the grounds, with a supermarket right across the road. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, and the town centre is only a few minutes away.

The room was quiet and much more spacious than I expected, so I had no complaints about it. The problem was communication: reception was closed, and nobody had texted to say which room I was in. Luckily, as I arrived, I spotted a staff member leaving for the day and he told me. I stayed on a weekend, which may explain why there wasn't staff around.

Katy was a fantastic host and kept in touch really well. Travelling with a three-year-old and a six-month-old can be a lot, but this place suited our little family just right. We had an excellent stay at Blue Haven Motel, Mount Maunganui, and it made the trip more memorable. We'll be back one day!
