Oasis Bar & Hotel

The owners and staff were okay and helpful. There’s a bar and restaurant next door, but the accommodation itself is pretty basic for $60 a night for a single room, or $80 for a room with a queen and single bed. The toilet and shower are shared with other guests.

We ordered meals and they were better than we expected, especially for such a good price. After our car broke down in waiouru, they took our family in straight away and went out of their way to help us at a really good rate. The room had what we and the kids needed to be comfortable while the car was being fixed. The young family running the place are really nice and doing their best. Once we’d settled in, they checked that everything was okay and brought extra towels and beds. Thanks for all the help.

There was rubbish being dumped in parts of the building, which was sad to see. The bar was meant to have good food according to reviews, but at 10am it was still closed, or nobody was around. Inside, things felt dirty and dusty, with old tissues under the bed and no pillowcases or towels available. There was no hot water, so we left instead of staying the second night. I’m sure the place has potential, but not with the current staff operating it. I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it. Stay at your own risk.

The room was large, but it was in poor shape, with dirty air, sagging beds and carpet that looked like it had been there since the 60s. The place needs renovations immediately. There isn’t much to do in town besides the museum, though the Italian place next door has great food. I’d never stay here again. Steer clear.
