Kelly's Riverside Motel

The rooms are roomy and clean, and the beds were comfortable. Noise is the drawback. Cars aren't as noticeable, but trains pass every 30 minutes or so and can be loud enough to shake the room a little. The motel's handy spot across from McDonald's, a Servo and a pizza place comes with that noise. The internet and soundproofing could be improved. Still a very nice place to stay.

The man running the place was friendly and helpful, and everything was very clean and tidy. It's an older place in a small town, with beds that were okay. It was a hot day when we visited; there were fans in every room but no air-conditioning. Apparently it rarely gets that hot there, so nobody had air-conditioning. The main road is right there and carries a lot of trucks, with freight trains passing behind the place. If you're a light sleeper, expect a noisy stay.

The staff were very helpful, and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds. They'd provided everything we needed to get our stay started.

We liked the place's old-fashioned Kiwi welcome, and Kelly the cat was such a sweetheart. She seemed ready to move in with us! The host was incredibly friendly and keen to make us feel at home from the start. Our unit was dated, but clean, cosy and charmingly retro. It also had a lovely private balcony at the back. The beds suited us perfectly, though every pillow was quite large, and we prefer flatter ones. Shower pressure was fine. There were no extras like tissues or spare pillows, but we didn't miss them. The owner came out to say goodbye as we drove off the next morning, a lovely personal touch. It's close to town but on the edge, which made it a handy base for the Forgotten World Highway. We'd stay again.
