I didn't get to meet Martin in person because our schedules didn't line up, but he kept in touch thoroughly by email and text and made us feel very welcome. The cottage was spacious, clean and well maintained, in a quiet yet accessible part of town. It was probably the most luxurious part of my trip through the central plateau, and it made me appreciate Taumaranui more than I had before. This was a highlight of my central North Island travels, and I'll come back when I'm passing through again.

Martin has made this a warm, lovely place to stay. The rooms were immaculate and comfortable. Samantha, the house cat, was shy but very sweet.

This is a shared home, and the bedroom is the only private space. The arrangement felt awkward because the owner had guests over for dinner while we were meant to be staying there. We felt so uncomfortable that we left without staying.

Martin was a generous host, and we enjoyed chatting with him. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day, with porridge and tea. We had a comfortable two-night stay in midwinter, with a friendly cat, in a quiet, safe area. Parking was easy, and the welcoming fire and electric blanket were much appreciated.

The shared lounge, dining room and kitchen made me feel right at home. My room was impressive, and Martin was a great host who went the extra mile for me. I was thoroughly impressed by the hospitality during my recent stay at Magpie Cottage in Taumarunui. I wholeheartedly recommend it as a great place to stay.
