We loved our stay in Chalet 6. The owner, Annie, was so hospitable, and the facilities were great. The two-story chalets sit where the Waikato river begins, so the water is always moving, and the views are wonderful. It was a picturesque, comfortable surprise, with lots of bird life to watch.

The chalets have an older style charm and still offer everything needed for a comfortable stay, along with incredible views. Taupo’s weather was mixed while we were there, but sitting in the lounge and looking out over the lake was a perfect way to spend the rainy stretches. Highly recommended.

The lakefront setting is lovely and secluded, and check-in and check-out were easy with the lockbox and self-service setup. The apartment had all the facilities, but it was very dated and tired. It smelled musty when we arrived, the towels didn’t smell good, and there were dirty marks on the sofa. The shower was only lukewarm. We stayed this weekend for an event on the Great Lake and were disappointed with the accommodation. With that setting, the owners could make a beautiful resort, but the place needs a revamp. It wasn’t good value for money, and the standard just wasn’t there. We won’t be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return. The unit was very well equipped, the staff were helpful, and their restaurant recommendations and suggestions for food to try were spot on. It’s a gorgeous location right on the lake.
