The manager was relaxed, helpful, and really welcoming, which made a big difference. We’ve stayed at places in this class during our trip, and this was easily the best. The lodge is close to town and the lakeshore, and the shared lounge and well-equipped kitchen were lovely. Everything was clean, tidy, and well organized. Our family room had lots of space, a kitchenette, a private garden area, bunk beds and a double bed. The big windows and heater were welcome on cold nights. A pool table would’ve been nice, though.

The location’s great, and the staff were really friendly. The rooms were nice, and the free Wi-Fi was a big plus. I’d recommend it to another backpacker, though the kitchen needs some attention. New cookware would’ve made me give it five stars.

Our private room was roomy, with a small balcony, comfortable beds, and parking available. The shower and bathroom were okay, and breakfast is offered as a nice extra, though I wouldn’t book the hostel for that. The room wasn’t very clean. Decent place overall.

We came back and stayed here twice, and would recommend it. The common room is large and cosy, with plenty of power points, plus there’s a small outdoor deck. The kitchen is bright and spacious, even when busy, with several stovetops and ovens. Backpackers also leave lots of free food. There are plenty of showers and toilets. The beds are fairly comfortable, though it can be hit or miss. It’s affordable, and TBG hostel guests can get 10% off by booking directly with their card. Shout-out to Blaire, who was lovely and helped us out a couple of times.

The rooms were fairly clean and quiet, but a few things about the setup were inconvenient. The locked storage was outside the rooms. The kitchen shut at 10 pm, and breakfast didn’t start until 8 am, too late for when we wanted to leave for a hike. That may also be why the hostel felt so quiet and unsocial in the evenings. When we did have breakfast on the second day, it wasn’t much to miss: you had to go upstairs for bowls and plates, then downstairs for bread and cereal.
