The room turned out to be a treat, and I went from being grumpy about a last-minute booking to wishing I could stay longer. It had a lovely lake view through a glazed wall and sliding door. I usually dislike sliding doors because of noise and temperature control, but this one kept out the sound of the occasional car passing along the lakeside. Instead of a mini split or radiator, there was a premium Mitsubishi split system to manage the temperature. The separate shower and bathtub made me especially happy, and there were fluffy towels and a heated towel rack. The room also had a stove and dishwasher, comfy lounge chairs, a coffee machine and a washer-dryer, giving it a friendly, residential feel rather than a typical hotel setup. I’d booked at the last minute after plans changed, and hadn’t wanted to spend on luxe accommodation, but this felt like great value.

The lake views and convenient location near the excursion dock were highlights of our two October nights. It’s also an easier drive to Milford Sound than starting from Queenstown. Our room felt like a housekeeping suite, with a bedroom, sitting area and equipped kitchen, plus nice furnishings. There are no USB ports, so bring a charger and adaptor. A cold breakfast is available if ordered before 6 pm, and it arrives later that evening. We found it easier to get something at the local grocery store.

We needed somewhere to stop on the way to Milford Sound and were pleasantly surprised by this unrated motel. Our studio was spotless and very well appointed, with an amazing view. Great value for money. Don’t think twice, just book it.

Our tanara deluxe studio was spacious and comfortable, with lovely lake views. It had everything we needed, from comfy armchairs to a washer-dryer and dishwasher. A lovely stay.

The views were great, though it’s a good walk into downtown. The rooms seem to have been recently remodelled, and everything felt tasteful and thoughtfully planned, from the light switches to the kitchen details. Simply perfect.
