Quality Hotel Oceans Tutukaka

The beds were very comfortable, and both harbour-view rooms were spotlessly clean, though old. The hotel itself was old but clean too. We booked by phone just two days before arriving, four days before New Years, as we were coming up to check on property and remember my father, who had recently passed. My wife, two kids and I went with my mum, with one room for us and another for her. The lady who handled our short-notice booking was excellent. The restaurant downstairs is Maori-based and sadly doesn’t get the customers it deserves. The TV channels were limited to free view and casting. The pool wasn’t heated, and the outdoor area was in very poor condition. Even so, I’d definitely stay again.

The room was clean and comfortable, pretty much as expected. The place feels tired, though, and some things don’t work. The TV was out, the AC control panel was broken and in such poor repair it needs replacing, even though I could use it by trial and error. Fire doors were wedged open and clearly inoperative. Reception also wasn’t staffed after about 8pm, so if you needed anything then, you were out of luck.

They made the whole stay easy and stress-free, even letting us check in late in the evening and being flexible about an early checkout the next morning. The room was spacious, clean, lovely and comfortable, with no issues. A really solid experience for a 3 star hotel.

The stay was fine, and there’s a lovely location with great food in the area. The shower was the one problem: its curtain was too short, so water spread across the whole floor and out the door. We needed a lot of towels to mop it up.
