Alpine Chalets

This was our second stay, and we're definitely coming back. The renovated rooms look great, everything was spotless and cozy, and it was lovely to return to a warm room after a long day snowboarding. Checking in and out was easy. When the mountain closed for one of our planned days, we booked an extra night at short notice, and Mary made the process simple and charged us the same rate as the rest of our stay. We expected to pay more, so that was amazing. She was easy to reach and very hospitable, which made for great service. PS: Complaining about road noise when you've booked a place on a main road is a bit funny. You probably should've thought that through. You won't really find somewhere without road noise in this area, but here it was so minimal we barely noticed it.

The room worked perfectly for my son and me. We used the bunk room for storage, and there was a nice table where we could eat breakfast. I also appreciated that this was the first place I've stayed where recycling was encouraged. Mary was super helpful, and handled all my questions in the most professional way I've experienced in all my travels. I'd definitely come back :-)

The view from room 12 was great, and the location worked well for the early shuttle to the alpine trek across the park. There were also several places to eat nearby. We stayed two nights last week, but it was very noisy. The room faced the highway, where trucks were using that stretch pretty consistently as a temporary rest area. I wouldn't recommend it if you can't tolerate a lot of road noise.

Mary was really flexible with our schedule, and the location is right across from the YHA pick-up area for Tongariro Crossing shuttles. The room was clean, updated and very nice, with comfortable beds. There was a small kitchen area with a plug-in electric burner, dishes, cutlery and a couple of food storage containers.
