The local pub was only a couple of minutes away by bike and had a great dinner selection. At the Waipiata Motel, Jen greeted us as we arrived on our three-day Otago Rail Trail ride with Trail Journeys, which I’d highly recommend. I’d booked the family room for a late January night with my teenage daughter and son, but Jen kindly gave me my own room next door. The rooms are tastefully furnished, with NZ woolen blankets and sheepskins on carpeted floors. The bedding was very comfortable, and the showers were excellent. We all enjoyed the home-baked afternoon tea, and Jen’s engaging way with my kids was much appreciated. Breakfast included homemade bread, NZ butter, muesli, cereal, tea, and plunger coffee. Jen is an excellent host, and this is a comfortable place to stay when visiting Waipiata or passing through by bike or car.
