Mum and Dad had a blast in the Hobbit room. They said it was really tidy, and the heater was on for their arrival, so it was toasty. For Mum's birthday I arranged flowers, which were delivered to the room before she got there. I was really impressed with Jim and all my million emails while getting them booked in. Thanks again!

For a night near the Waitomo caves, woodlyn park motel is a fun option because of its unusual rooms. We slept in the back of the plane, and it was very nice. The bunk and double bed were more than enough for us. The bathroom was quite small, much like on a real plane, but fine for one night, and the shower had warm water. There's also air conditioning and heating if needed, plus a parking spot in front of every room. It's not the most luxurious hotel, but sleeping in a ship, plane or hobbit home makes up for that with its uniqueness.

We picked the Hobbit "cave room" after leaving the shire, hoping to stay somewhere like a hobit hole. There was a faint smell, more like grandma's house than anything bad. The property is adorable, and the owner has a cute dog that wanders around the top of the hill. We only needed somewhere to sleep while visiting waitomo, and this is a minute drive from the town center. If you want an unusual stay here, don't let the bad reviews put you off. This place is awesome.

We stayed in the ship's rear two-story balcony room, and the mold smell hit as soon as we walked in. It was heavy and unmistakable throughout the room, enough to make us wonder whether we should stay. Then there were bugs everywhere, not just the odd one. We should have packed up and left to find another place. Not doing that is my biggest regret. The mattress was the firmest I've ever tried to sleep on. We lay awake in exhausted disbelief, staring at the ceiling and counting the hours until we could go. The night was completely lost, and every holiday night matters. Mold, bugs and a mattress like a concrete slab made this one of the worst nights of our trip. Nobody should have to pay for that or put up with it on a trip that should be memorable. If you're considering that specific room, think twice. Stay somewhere else. Anywhere else. Don't make the same mistake we did.
