The Brownston Hostel

The shared spaces were great, especially the large, clean kitchen with plenty of room and the communal area. Free milk, tea, coffee, and sugar were provided. The facilities were clean, and the location was great. The manager was polite and friendly, and helped me get a room when I arrived late, after reception hours, without a booking. The beds were uncomfortable, with shallow mattresses, and the bathrooms could have had better ventilation. Apart from that, I’d give it 8 out of 10.

The staff were helpful, and the kitchen was large and well stocked. The beds were comfortable, and everything was clean and well maintained. Easily the nicest hostel I’ve ever stayed in.

The shared men’s bathroom showers on level one were by far the worst hostel showers I’ve ever used. They looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in months, the drain was completely blocked, and the grout was brown with gunk. If the showers were a little better, this would be a great place for a fairly cheap hostel stay.

A reasonably clean, quiet hostel in a central location. The rooms feel like hospital wards. As with hostels generally, most of the problems come from other guests rather than the property.
