Coachmans Lodge Motel

I'm not sure why there are some mixed reviews here. The rooms are older and basic, but they're well kept and well supplied. The staff were friendly, and being pet friendly is a big plus. I'd definitely stay here again.

The queen bed was super comfortable, and the place looked dated and a bit rough. There was also a strange smell as soon as we walked in. That still wasn't enough to let us sleep: the walls are paper thin, and at midnight we woke to neighbours stomping around their rooms like elephants. Their baby started crying too, and with walls that thin it was as if they were slamming doors in our room. We packed up and drove home shortly after it became clear they weren't going to settle down. If you need your sleep, I wouldn't recommend it.

I booked at the last minute for my daughter and her family of six after a storm, flooding and evacuations disrupted their trip from New Plymouth back to Auckland. Peter, I think that was his name, was lovely. He reassured me by phone from the South Island that he had a room even though they would arrive late, and that the Whanganui river banks weren't going to burst. As a mother, that was exactly what I needed to hear. We'd definitely book there again.

Our little dog went missing, and the welcoming hosts helped us find her. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy. We'd definitely stay again. Thank you.
