Ohtel Wellington

The service felt like being at home. Everyone was friendly, and I loved sitting by the window on cold evenings with hot chocolate and their homemade marshmallows. The rooms are large and each one is unique, with beautiful mid-century decor. A card on the bed explains the pillow options. I was glad to find a Nespresso machine instead of instant coffee, plus heated towel rails and a separately heated bathroom for Wellington's wet, windy weather. The shower sits higher than the rest of the bathroom, so water runs out into other areas. Getting in with luggage was a chore: the waterfront hotel is narrow and built deep into the hill, and the entrance has an odd little slope with a series of wooden bumpers. At check-in, I was confused by the “Ohtel Pantry” sign on a table and wasn't sure which door to use. I'll definitely return to try the other rooms, and check out their video.?

We checked into Ohtel on Boxing Day and were especially impressed by the room size and amenities. The service was outstanding, the bed comfortable, and the coffee in the morning was great. We'll be back!

I travel a lot and rarely complain, but this place needs to be exposed for the lies it purports. I don't understand how the hotel has a 5-star rating. The entrance foyer is less than 720mm wide, which I believe makes it illegal and a fire hazard, and the sliding toilet and shower doors are less than 650mm wide, also not legal. The open shower's drain can't keep up with the water, flooding the bathroom and making it slippery. A foul smell came from the bathroom drain; room service poured bleach down it, which only stopped the smell temporarily. There was no bathroom privacy, just a poor curtain. The “sheen buster” bed, be careful. The small, backgammon-sized coffee table wobbles and is hopelessly out of order. Andrew. YIASEMIDES.

The thoughtful details made this stay feel special: a personal welcome card, a pillow menu, heated bathroom floors, and locally made toiletries and minibar treats. The soaps smelled amazing. My king room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with an enormous bath that was perfect for unwinding. Everyone on the Ohtel team was so welcoming, and room service was great. I was glad to have an 11am checkout for a slow morning and breakfast in bed. I only stayed two nights and really wish I could have stayed longer. 🩷
