The only real workout here is getting up Macdonald crescent hill. I stayed at Rosemere for a month and still loved the place. It feels like a family, with plenty of friendly, helpful, fun people staying long term. The woofers kept the hostel clean and tidy, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Breakfast was free, the showers always had hot water, and there were lots of spots to relax, including the deck, kitchen, sitting room and TV room. There are plenty of films in the TV room, which came in handy when the weather was miserable. Roger, the manager, was lovely, helpful and friendly, and very accommodating. I really enjoyed getting to know him. I’ll be back.

I had a great time at Rosemere Backpackers, and the staff were friendly too. It’s up on the side of a hill, not far from the harbor or big beaches. The notice board had useful listings for sights and places to visit, jobs and cars for sale. My bed in the six-person room was clean and comfortable. They also have clean toilets, working showers, a piano, and a decent breakfast each morning from 7-10am. Just a really cute hostel for backpackers and travelers.

We found quite a few issues, and I wouldn’t stay again. There’s only one dining table, nowhere near enough room for everyone to eat. The floor in our double room was filthy, with so much rubbish under the bed that it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for months. When it rained, water came in through the window and ran onto the floor. We also got quite a few bites from whatever was in the bed, probably bed bugs. The price was reasonable, and the staff were friendly, but those problems outweighed that.

Breakfast was good, and the staff were really friendly, which earns it a few extra stars. The building itself is very old and run-down and needs renovating. My room was dirty, with rubbish under the bed and across the floor, and it stayed cold even with the heater on. The door lock didn’t seem very secure either, so keep a close eye on your belongings.

The uphill walk is a bit of a struggle with a heavy bag or backpack. Still, it was worth what I paid: there’s free WiFi and breakfast, and the kitchen is pretty good. My room was tidy when I checked in, though the outside was a bit messy. It got noisy when someone walked around upstairs.
