The manager was kind and helpful, but I won’t be coming back. I was told by local coworkers that the hotel is in Wellington’s Red Light District. I can’t say whether that’s true, since I didn’t go out at night to check. This feels like a budget hotel, not a four-star one. Most of the room was clean, but there wasn’t much on offer. The TV switched itself on at night while I was asleep. When I mentioned it at reception, the staff member said it happens sometimes and told me to reach behind the wall-mounted TV to switch it off at the back. There’s a small cafe by reception, but most of the menu items weren’t available. The options were cold sandwiches and muffins, or cold cereal for breakfast, and there was no coffee. If you’re passing through and want somewhere decent in a fairly central spot, it could work. For business travel when you expect a four-star hotel, this isn’t the place.

The after-hours receptionist, Aroona, gave me a stay I’ll remember, and I’m still grateful for it. On 06/08/26 I arrived frazzled and dealing with some stress. Her thoughtfulness and kindness went well beyond what I expected, and her help completely changed my mindset. She also shared lots of useful information. Her friendly manner made my time at the Microtel a very positive experience. Staff can really make a place stand out and leave a lasting impression. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the shower good. It’s well placed for eateries and restaurants. The food at the eatery and breakfast seemed sparse, and the dining area wasn’t very appealing. Parking also felt pricey at an extra $30 or $35 a day.
There isn’t much space, as the name suggests, but for a one-night stay it worked just fine for us. The air conditioning was very effective, the bed and shower were both good, and the price was good too. Great location.
We skipped the hotel parking at $35 a day and left the car on the street for free on both nights. The location was handy, with lots of good restaurants within walking distance. Our room was clean and spacious, though having no window was unusual. Reception hours are odd too, just 8:30am to 6pm. The repeated messages and emails before check-in were annoying. They asked for information I’d already provided when booking, which felt like a waste of time.
Staying at Microtel Wellington became one of my most precious experiences in this city. Everything was good and convenient. The location is quite close to Airport Welling ton, and the drive from the hotel took me just 15 min. I’ll choose this hotel again on my next trip. I hope these words are helpful.
