U Suites on Manners

The smell of rotten food, garbage and decay was overwhelming in the common areas and lift wells, and made the little outdoor space unusable. On top of that, the guests in the apartment next door, also rented by U Suites, partied all night with music loud enough to hear downstairs outside the building, right through until 8am. We paid $250 a night, and this was absolutely not worth it. We could have stayed at the 5 star Sofitel for less, and we’ll never come back. I hope this puts people off booking with U Suites. We were first put in apartment 11, which looked nothing like the photos and felt deceptive. I called Tung, the Duty Manager. He was nice and moved us to apartment 5, which did look like the photos and was spacious. But it was pretty gross: stained, dirty lounge furniture, dead lightbulbs in some rooms, and no batteries in the air conditioner remote, so we couldn’t use the heater. It was very cold in August. I should’ve read the reviews before booking on AirBnB.

Vile, and nowhere near worth the $250 a night. The kitchen looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in 101 years, there was mold in the shower, and the entrance stank. The washing machine made our clothes smell bad too. There’s only one lamp in apartment 8 for two rooms, though the pictures show one in each, and we didn’t get the glass TV stand or nice coffee table shown either. The single bed looks ready to collapse. We’ve still got another night here, and I’ve repeatedly tried to reach the “manager” with no luck. Maybe $150 a night at a push.

The room was a 7/10, with great beds, a well-equipped kitchen and big bathrooms. The shower pressure was probably the main letdown. There’s some noise from the bars, but it’s the city centre, so that’s a first-world problem. Once we got past the rough entrance on Tory St, things improved. We had some confusion over contactless check-in and parking, but the lady on the phone was amazing and the service gets 10/10. Location also gets 10/10. The room matched the photos, just a little run down in places.

It looked as if the place hadn’t been cleaned in a week, with unmade beds and mold everywhere. The shower leaked and flooded the bathroom. We asked them to fix it or at least give us extra towels, but they said nothing could be done until 9am the next day. We had to find somewhere else to stay and asked for a refund. They just told us to leave a review. I’m not picky, but this place is an absolute disgrace. Don’t book it.
