Museum Apartment Hotel, Independent Collection by EVT

The apartment’s kitchenette was handy, and the deep bathtub easily fits two. Having a washer and dryer there was a real bonus, though we wished there had been simple instructions. We didn’t have a restaurant reservation, so we ate in the bar instead and had a great time. If you want a table in the restaurant, book ahead, it’s very popular. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, and we felt looked after from the minute we arrived. The hotel is beautiful, with striking artwork throughout that made it feel like staying in a gallery. Its location also made getting around Wellington easy. We absolutely loved the stay and would happily come back.

We had a King Harbour view apartment, but it felt dated and sparsely furnished. There was no couch for watching TV, just a metal chair. The air-conditioning fan was noisy and stuck on high. There was no coffee machine or fresh milk, and parking cost $50 per night. I wouldn’t stay here, try an Airbnb.

The location is fantastic, and the front desk team are friendly, professional, and helpful. The art and décor create a lovely atmosphere. The pool, sauna, and spa are well maintained, and concierge parking is convenient. For the most part, it’s a pleasant place to stay and the staff are nice. There were a number of service and upkeep problems, though. It was very hard to reach room service or the restaurant, even after several attempts on different days. I ordered a coffee through the room app at 8:30, but it was missed. When I followed up, they hadn’t seen the order and the machine had closed for cleaning. They brought a Coke instead, and the front desk kindly removed the delivery fee, but it still took 40 minutes to arrive. The room needed to be cleaned again. They made it a priority once I raised it, which was good to see, but before that it was so dusty one night that sleeping was difficult. My friends’ room was dusty too. My washing machine needed a maintenance visit before it could be used, though they came quickly. The shower in my friend’s room didn’t work properly, and the wallpaper was scratched and worn. The fixtures need a refit, and cleaning and service practices need work.

I last stayed here ten years ago and wanted to see it again, this time with my husband and our 6-year-old. The knowledgeable, kind staff were the main reason it was definitely a 10/10. The hotel felt fancy, with all the art décor and museum-style displays. Museums, restaurants, and other activities are within walking distance. Highly recommend, and I’ll book again when we’re in Wellington.
