Carters By The Sea Westport

The beach view was really pretty, and the rooms were clean and nicely presented. We got all the arrival information well ahead of time, which made us feel comfortable before we even arrived.

The rooms were spotless, but the bathroom design meant the whole floor got wet when we showered. Some details felt poorly thought through too, like the trash can hitting the other cabinet door when you tried to reach it. Wi-Fi was slow and parking was extremely tight for a car. At check-in there was nobody at the front desk, the buzzer didn’t work, and after nearly ten minutes of calling and knocking, I finally had to make an expensive international call to get someone to come.

Chris and his wife made us feel very welcome and were professional. The units were clean, warm and nicely presented, with great views and all-day sun. We had a great weekend on the Coast, getting away from city life and unwinding. The weather was perfect for walks to the seal colony and lighthouse. We’d definitely recommend it and will be back.

The owners, Erica and Chris, were extremely friendly, and our little 4 year old daughter felt right at home. We stopped at Carters Beach on a recent trip through New Zealand and stayed in this beautiful brand new Motel, right by the beach. The rooms are bright, spacious and fully equipped with a stove, microwave and fridge for anyone wanting to cook or eat in. We chose the nice restaurant next door instead and weren’t disappointed. We enjoyed the cable TV and complimentary WI-FI, even though we didn’t use them much, and there’s plenty of on-site parking. The brand new bathroom was a 10/10. It got a bit chilly outside at night, but the heater worked great and the insulation kept drafts out. Nearby are the seal colony, about 10 mins drive, Pan Cake Rocks in Punakaiki, 40 mins drive, and a golf course by the sea, a 3 minute drive away. We’d stay again and recommend the motel to anyone visiting the West coast.
