Sunseeker Lodge

We only stayed one night on the way to Cape Reinga, but the peaceful setting and stunning view had us wishing we’d booked longer. We had two spacious, comfortable rooms, just right for resting after a long drive. There’s a shared kitchen with the essentials, though a few utensils could do with an upgrade. We didn’t get to try the spa tub, but it’s a nice extra for another visit. We’d definitely come back for the views and quiet.

We spent Christmas at Sunseeker Lodge in Whangaroa and the hosts made us feel welcome from the start. They even sorted out a small issue kindly and efficiently. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner for seven, and the whole lodge was well equipped. The beds were very comfortable, and the place felt cosy and thoughtfully set up. We could imagine staying here in winter too, with its warm, inviting feel. The view over Whangaroa Harbour and the surrounding greenery is beautiful, and the quiet setting made it feel like a real escape. We enjoyed the idea of sitting on the deck with a glass of wine or exploring the nearby natural scenery. It seems suited to a family get-together, a romantic break, or a quiet getaway in any season. The large hot tub with those views on a crisp winter evening sounds especially lovely. Thanks to the Sunseeker Lodge team for a memorable Christmas. We can’t wait to return.

We booked a room online and were surprised to find a spacious apartment with incredible views. Karen kindly walked us over and checked that we had what we needed. I’d picked the wrong day by mistake, but she even changed our reservation for us, which we really appreciated. The spa was another pleasant surprise, especially for such a good price. My husband and I can’t wait to come back.

The view over Whangaroa harbour was beautiful, and we enjoyed watching the sunset from the spa pool and our rooms each evening. Karen and Evan were so welcoming, thank you for having us. The accommodation was clean, fresh, and comfortable, and worked well for an overnight stay or a romantic getaway. There’s a restaurant and bar within walking distance, or you can prepare your own food.
