The owner gave me useful tips for getting to PN Omar Torrijos and choosing a fonda. It made a handy base for the park and the waterfalls near Barrigón. I arrived without a booking at 6:05pm and got the room for a very reasonable price. I had the place to myself, probably because it was a weekday at the end of the rainy season. The room was basic, just a bed, chair, and fan. There’s no A/C, but the mountain air stayed cool enough that I turned the fan off around 2AM because I was cold. The shared shower and toilet were small and very clean. The water was cold, which is typical in Panamá. Management only speaks español, as does El Copé, so knowing some basic phrases helps. I managed with my 350 words and counting skills.

Check-in was easy, and the price was really low. It’s a cozy, pleasant spot, simple but functional, and worked perfectly for visiting OMAR TORRIJOS NATIONAL PARK.

El Cope was somewhere I’d wanted to visit since I was a child, so I’m glad I finally made it, even if it took me so long. Mrs. Mercedes was always so helpful, thank you to her. I’d definitely come back for the waterfalls. Hopefully the government improves the road. Thank you, Mrs. Merce.
