Bastimentos Caribean Hotel

The island itself is interesting and has a beautiful beach, but I’d stay somewhere else. We left early, and no one on staff asked why. It seemed the main thing was that we’d paid for the stay. The worst part was the neighborhood. From New Year’s Eve, loud “music” from several boomboxes played all night and through the day. We got no sleep and had no chance to relax. I think the hotel should consider its neighbors when running a place like this, for the comfort of its guests. The rooms were small, dated and dirty, with dust and ants. The sheets and towels had been washed, but were stained and torn. There was an electric water heater for the shower, but it was broken, and staff didn’t respond to several repair requests. In general, they acted as if guests were bothering them, even with reasonable requests. The surroundings were dirty and littered, too. One star because it’s a hotel. I really don’t recommend it.

They were helpful with communication even before I arrived, and the owners were kind throughout my stay. The owner-run place is lovely, with a spectacular view and excellent service. I was there for New Year’s Eve, and they even treated us to dinner. The room was clean and had everything I needed: a bed, air conditioning and a private bathroom. The food at the restaurant was delicious. Mrs. Kecha’s cooking was the best, and breakfast was amazing. The woman working in the restaurant was super friendly and always smiling. I recommend it 1000%!

Right on the coast of Bastimento Island, this is a lovely place to enjoy the quiet and scenery. The service was very good.
