For surfing, fishing, or just relaxing by the beach, this is a great spot. You can also spend time in nature around sloths, frogs, monkeys, and more, and get a full Panamanian adventure. If you're lucky enough to meet the owner Scott, you'll see what a wonderful host he is and what a memorable trip this can be.

We had a phenomenal stay at Red Frog Bungalows. The surf was great, and the guys knew just where to take us. Nachyo Mommas made ridiculously good food. Try the cheese and beans quesadilla with chicken added. The bungalows were clean, and it cooled off nicely at night, so we slept really well. Ask Kai about the snook adventure. He had a fish on my line in 5 min. They're rare around there, and be sure to tip him $20.

Scott made everything easy from the moment I arrived in Bocas, which can feel overwhelming, especially when you're traveling solo. He picked me up and brought me straight to this peaceful, beautiful property. It really feels like a private jungle oasis. This is a real ecolodge, with a sustainable, thoughtful operation that clearly matters a lot to Scott. There was no swell while I was there, so he arranged a cabana for me at the beach, the most beautiful in Bocas, just a 2 min walk from my room. Scott cooked delicious, hearty meals with fresh king mackerel from our fishing trip, lobster tail, shrimp, and filling breakfasts with great coffee. I felt so looked after by Scott and Maiky that I felt like part of their family. Scott also connected me with the right people and recommendations for tours and my plans after leaving. I ran into him surfing a few days after checkout, and he kindly gave me the pointers I badly needed. Thank you, Scott and Maiky. I'll never forget my time with you and Red Frog Bungalows!

Scott, the owner, meets you at the dock himself and gives you a look around. The bungalows are wooden and tucked into thick, lovely jungle, with cared-for plants and native flowers. The beach is only a two-minute walk away. We loved the food. One evening I had lobster tail caught that same day by local fishermen, and Bobo the chef clearly puts care into everything. Even the desserts are homemade, like plantains with chocolate and a really good passion fruit custard. Scott also makes things easy, from arranging tour transport to answering questions about the area. He treats his staff well, and you can see that. The all-inclusive price felt worth every penny. We’d love to return. Meredith and Byron

We went together, and while I was surfing my wife had plenty to do. Her favorite was yoga by the beach. We’ll definitely come back. Scott, who owns the place and guides the surf trips, took me to some great waves. I caught a lot, and it wasn’t crowded. The resort has a private feel in the rainforest, with lots of wildlife around. We spotted spider monkeys, sloths, red frogs, and caiman, among other animals.
