SurfAsana Lodge

The room was clean and comfortable, and we loved waking up to the view. Surf Asana is about five minutes from the beach, with bikes available to make the ride easy. It’s just beyond the small surf town, so we appreciated the quiet at night after spending the day out. Maurizio also arranged a great Coiba tour and a magical sunset horseback ride along the beach, both of which we’ll remember for a long time. Maurizio made us feel welcome right away. He’s an experienced surfer with a calm manner, and was happy to share surf advice, local tips, or just have a good conversation. We were also surprised by how good a cook he is. The pasta he made was full of flavor, carefully prepared, and tasted like real Italian home cooking. If you like a simple, comfortable place with lovely views and a host who knows the sea and the area, Surf Asana is a great choice. Highly recommended.

The view over the beach and sea was the standout for us, and we liked being able to make our own dinner in the shared kitchen. The lodge felt quite new and had what we needed for a pleasant stay: a comfy bed, good shower, and air conditioning. We stayed four nights and arrived in our rental car. Mauricio, the owner, quickly helped us with our luggage. Storage was a little limited. A small cabinet in the bathroom or somewhere to put a phone beside the bed would have been handy, but those are minor details. Thanks for a great stay. Hope to see you again 🤙🏼

We borrowed the free bikes to reach the center, so the location a little outside town was no problem and actually quite convenient. The rooms were tidy, clean, and fully equipped. The host really made the stay special, helping with whatever we needed and easily arranging good tours or suggesting restaurants. I’d recommend this place without hesitation.

The hill up to the lodge is steep, so a 4x4 is probably the best way to get there. There’s no shaded outdoor space, and keep in mind the shared kitchen closes at 9 PM. Take any snacks or drinks out of the shared fridge before then. We had a good stay at SurfAsana Lodge. The modern rooms have AC and a great ocean view, and Mauricio gave us useful restaurant suggestions and tips about the Santa Catalina area.
