Casa Andina Premium Arequipa

I was downgraded because the room I originally booked was being renovated, and only found out when I arrived. I booked through QANTAS/expedia, and they say Expedia still hasn't replied to them. I suppose I have to take their word for it, but this room isn't 5 star at all. It feels like something from the 80s, which makes the renovations understandable. The lobby is inviting, but that's where the appeal ends for me. I took a look at breakfast and expected more than butter in little plastic pods and cereal left out day and night. It didn't give the impression that anyone cared. I'm really unhappy. The front desk has been accommodating, as they should be after downgrading me. I've asked for food credit since getting the difference owed back will take forever. We'll see how willing they are to do that.

Breakfast was great, and the location puts you in Cusco's historical center, just a few minutes on foot from Plaza de Armas. The entrance is on a fairly busy street at the edge of town. It's a good-value hotel in a reliable chain found throughout Peru. The property is in a historic building, although most rooms are in a newer building next door and are the classic shoebox type.

The breakfasts had a nice mix of hot and cold food, pastries, and excellent coffee. Our room was kept immaculate, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our two-night stay. We felt very well looked after.

The location is fantastic, right by the Santa Catalina Monastery and close to the main square. I also appreciated the 12:00 checkout, later than the 9 or 10am times at some other hotels in Peru. I was only there one night, but had a good stay. The shared spaces have lots of character, while most rooms at the back are modern. A mix-up on the hotel's part meant they kindly upgraded me to a junior suite. It was spacious and comfortable, with a huge bed, a roomy bathroom, kettle, hair dryer, mini bar, iron, and other amenities. The blackout blinds worked well. Breakfast was good, with hot dishes such as eggs, grilled vegetables and fried chicken, plus plenty of fruit and juice and a good coffee machine. Staff were friendly and helpful. The shower door didn't close properly, but I had no other complaints.
