Sean Carlo even offered a free upgrade to a larger room with air conditioning when we arrived around midnight. I can’t say whether the other rooms had air conditioning. Rag and Sean Carlo were both thoughtful and professional, and gave us clear check-in instructions and tips on places to visit. The staff really did try to make us feel welcome. The room itself was another story. There were cobwebs on the lampshades and in the corners, stains on the bed covers, unswept floors, and mold on the shower head. Even after the upgrade, the lack of cleanliness was bad enough that we left right away and booked somewhere else in Lima. I believe the room had been serviced, but the cleaning wasn’t up to hotel standards. The place felt so poorly maintained that we didn’t feel comfortable asking them to clean it. The staff were wonderful, but the basic hygiene problems made the stay not worth it. I hope they get the place clean and comfortable enough to stay in.

The staff were kind and helpful, and our room was clean. Barranco is a great neighborhood, with plenty to see within walking distance. But the carpets need replacing, and the clutter and dirt outside the room were overwhelming. The house is packed with teacups, bayonets, religious statues, unusual art, and all sorts of other things collecting dust. Other reviews mention antiques and clutter, but that didn’t prepare me for how much there was. It felt more like hoarding. The building is beautiful and could be something special, but it felt so neglected that what we paid seemed worth half at most. The price itself was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I hate leaving reviews like this, but people should know what to expect. Thanks to the staff for being so kind.

Google’s four-star rating doesn’t make sense to me. The hotel is run down, smells of mildew, and has poor lighting. Our room door didn’t feel secure, and the place wasn’t like the other reviews described. I hate posting a bad review, but people should know before they end up paying too much for a poor room like I did. There are nicer places nearby for half the price, so save your money and stay elsewhere.

The house itself is a historical, eclectic tribute to Lima’s culture, and the staff take pride in looking after their casa. Giancarlo, Ragnar, Jorge, and the rest of the crew are full of stories and useful local tips. They even went out of their way to improve my stay, including giving me a better room when one happened to be available. Barranco has the artistic, stylish feel I was after, more my speed than posh Miraflores. If you’re likely to come back after 1/2am, let them know ahead of time so the person on door duty is ready.

The atmosphere is clean and the place feels beautiful and welcoming. The staff are really friendly. They’ll give you a map and suggest places to visit around Barranco, just remember to ring the bell because it can look like the place is closed. Sending a warm hug, and many thanks!
