Hotel & Spa Laguna Seca

The grounds themselves were beautiful, with a nice mini zoo to walk through, and the location was peaceful. Our room was clean and okay, and the airport shuttle was a plus. Staff were friendly. I was confused by reviews mentioning “various pools”: I saw two main pools, and they didn't look like they were cleaned often, with water simply being fed in. The shallow pool was full of leaves and felt more like a fountain than somewhere to soak. I wish there were a small, fresh, hot pool. The aqueduct that runs around the property and shows different temperatures is for viewing, not soaking. The saunas were moldy, had no steam, and the floors were really hot. The room tubs were nice, but the water came in warm and cold, so it didn't seem to be all hot spring water. The hotel could be amazing if it updated the pools or changed the water more often. Also, check-out is at 10am! :(

The setting is beautiful, and I really enjoyed the breakfast, the excellent restaurant dishes, and the service. Still, the end of our two-night stay was upsetting. My girlfriend and I believe a staff member in the laundry stole my cellphone. Management did nothing to help find the phone or identify who took it. As a tourist passing through, I had to continue my trip without a way to get anything back. It’s hard to accept that this could happen even at the town’s best reputed hotel, and that management did nothing. The pool water may be changed once a week, but insects and plants float on the surface, and nobody cleans them out daily. If you want to keep your belongings, don’t leave them lying around in the room.

Our food took about 45 minutes and was horrible. I ordered an expensive fish, but they brought me something else. The orange juice was watered down and the maracuya was very weak. The lomo saltado was so tough I couldn't eat it. I won't come back for the food.

The restaurant serves authentic cuisine that's to die for. The spa is top notch, and just beyond the edge of Cajamarca it's completely peaceful and quiet.
