Hotel Escala

Bring earplugs: traffic right outside the window stays really loud all night. Of the places I've stayed in Peru so far, this one seems cleaner than the others, though it's still not completely clean. I've traveled all around the country and mostly stayed in cheap hostels and two-star hotels, so this is the best hotel I've had in Peru so far. The staff barely speak English, so have Google Translate ready. Wi-Fi is okay, but gets quite slow when lots of people are online at once. The shower was one of the best I've had so far, but don't count on a 15-minute hot shower. In two of my three showers, the water went cold, and once the hotel shut it off for repairs or service without telling me. I was in the shower when that happened. Breakfast is a buffet, but don't expect much. Breakfasts in Peru seem pretty similar: white toast, cold scrambled eggs, butter and jam, and coffee concentrate mixed with hot water. Sometimes there’s ham, cheese, yoghurt, and fruit. This hotel adds fruit, ham, and cheese to the standard Peruvian breakfast, but I still didn't think it was great.
