The ladies who run the place are nice, and I liked my clean room. The shower was hot when I went at the right time, with 4pm being best. Breakfast is rather Spartan.

We stayed an extra day in Chivay to visit the thermal baths again, and chose a place called Colca River. The prices were more or less reasonable and the service was good. It was my first time at the baths, and they were very nice and warm.

July 2018. We had to cut our canyon trip short in Chivay and head back down to Arequipa the next day. That wasn’t the hostel’s fault at all. It’s a nice family-run place, with decent beds and very friendly people, and the price for one night was absolutely fine. If we try the canyon again, maybe in 2020, we’d gladly return to Colca River. I highly recommend it. I took these two photos from the hostel room: the market just outside, with the church in the background, and Sabancaya volcano erupting.

Mrs. Maria, the owner, is a really nice person. The hotel is small but comfortable, with spacious rooms. Because of the climate, the water doesn’t get very hot.

I expected it to be cold, but it wasn’t, and I loved how cozy the place felt. The accommodation was clean, and the rooms have private bathrooms and cable TV.
