Casa Hostal Rojas

The best coffee we had in Peru was at breakfast, and there was a good selection of local teas available around the clock. The location is great and the staff were outstanding. The downside was the cold breakfast area in the mornings. They have a gas heater there but didn't use it, and turning it on would make the space more comfortable. The reception and shared lobby area had the same problem. Rooms facing the street were very noisy at night.

The area is safe and convenient, and the Plaza de Armas is less than a five-minute walk away. My bed was decent, the room was clean, and room service was OK. But the room setup made it hard to rest: street-facing rooms get noise from the club across the road, while interior rooms are beside the dining room and hear breakfast in the morning. The two windows in my interior room opened into the hotel and didn't lock, so I felt uneasy leaving my things there. There's no AC, and the bathroom smelled of sewage. Fine as a temporary place to sleep, but I wouldn't pay more than 100 SOL a night.

The old colonial building has some charm, and the hotel is centrally located. Beyond that, I wouldn't recommend it. A club across the street plays extremely loud music until 4 am, and the thin walls and doors let through noise from next door, including someone coughing all morning. Hallway vacuuming starts at 8 am, and the walls don't do much to muffle that either.

The dining area sits surrounded by the rooms, so you can hear staff working early and guests getting up to eat or head out. Some guests don't keep their voices down, and they'll wake you. There are bars on nearby streets too, with music and noise continuing late into the night. The location is great, but if you care about getting sleep, this isn't the right hotel.
