Hostal Colla Wasi

We booked two nights in a two-bedroom apartment described as having a terrace and balcony, but the space was being used for spare mattresses, hanging sheets, and hotel laundry at all hours. The hotel was okay, just not what the listing showed, so we stayed only one night. To their credit, the staff understood. They need to update the photos and description.

It's cheap and well located in San Blas neighborhood. But for $25 a night, I'd expect hot water, and there wasn't any in the evening. The room was cold with no heating, wifi kept dropping and was poor, and there's no Netflix. There's a notice asking guests not to stain the towels and bedsheets, but they're poor quality and already stained.

I believe you can do better elsewhere. This hotel appears to be running a few scams. They take bookings through booking.com and then switch the room, so it isn't the one in the photos. They also ask for more money than agreed. The extra charge is described as IVA, which Peruvian residents must pay but others don't. I've seen another hotel try this too, so DON'T FALL FOR IT! 99% of Peruvian hoteliers are honest.

The room was okay and the facilities were fine, but being made to feel ripped off was awful and not worth it. The receptionist, who might also manage the place, demanded Peruvian taxes, though we hadn't been charged those during our stay in Peru. He said the exchange rate was fixed at 3.86 dollars to soles when it favored him. We paid in dollars to avoid that rate, then he wanted to give us our change in soles using Google's current rate. When we pointed out that this contradicted his claim of a fixed rate, he said he'd made a mistake. It seemed obvious to us that he was trying to cheat tourists, so we don't recommend staying here.
