Hostal Quipu

A nice spot to stay overnight.

We always spend at least one night here when we come to Cusco, since it's an easy, comfortable stop before continuing our trip. It's a simple, welcoming guesthouse in an old house, with good value, hot water, and a very attentive staff. Being close to San Pedro market is handy for food and souvenirs, and there's a kitchen available if you need one.

When I checked in, the man gave me a price and said breakfast was included, so I agreed to stay. That night I asked the other person in charge when breakfast was served, and he told me it wasn't included. I brought up what I'd been promised, but he answered, "If you don't like it, you can leave." I asked if that was really how they resolved things. We left it there to avoid an argument, but I've come away with the worst impression of Peru. As a tourist, I'd never been told to leave if I didn't like something before. I hope people working in hospitality and tourism learn more about treating tourists with respect. If you're planning a trip to Peru and want to feel welcome, I'd spend your vacation money in another country.

The service is super friendly and attentive, and the price is very reasonable: S/.132 per night for a single or double room, with breakfast included. It's 700 meters from the city center. The decor isn't modern, so the room can feel chilly, but there are plenty of blankets. My towel was a little faded, though the sheets were spotless.
