Kokos House Hostel

Our room on the ground floor, near the entrance, was dirty, uncomfortable, and noisy. The entrance bell rang loudly every time someone came or went, and we heard it clearly. We also couldn’t sleep because the person next door played music late into the night. Eventually we persuaded them to turn it off. In the morning there was no hot water in the shower, and the bathroom light didn’t work, so we could only use it in daylight. We were meant to stay three nights but left after one, having spent the sleepless night looking up other places nearby. The only employee we met was a volunteer at the desk, both days we were there. He was nice, but couldn’t answer questions about the place. Our room had no lock, so we had to ask him for one and got a flimsy padlock. My wife and I have stayed in lots of hostels across many countries, and this was by far the worst for either of us. Awful experience.

The staff were good, and the building itself is nice and big. The problem was the club nearby: bass-heavy music shook Koko house from 5 pm until 5 am, and we couldn’t sleep. At this high altitude, you really need your rest. There’s nothing wrong with the place itself, but the music thumps right through the walls.

It seems not to exist anymore. I went there after making a reservation, but nobody was there.

Nice place. I’ll come back.
