Kori Gems Inn

For a pleasant, authentic family run place in Cusco, Kori Gems is a great choice. Don't expect a 5* hotel, but we found it excellent value and I rarely give five stars. We stayed twice and were given a free upgrade. The room was good, the shower hot with decent pressure, and there was a heater. Location and service were both great. The staff went well beyond helping us. They offered advice on Cusco landmarks and altitude sickness, and lent us a small towel for our trek. Coca tea is available free in the lobby around the clock 👌

The quiet, central location, affordable price, and friendly staff still make me recommend this hotel. They kept our luggage safely for the five nights we were away, and the young woman who seemed to be in charge was especially friendly, though I didn't get her name. Breakfast was basic but plentiful. Room 6, where we stayed two nights before our Salkantay trek, was beautiful, large, and airy, with plenty of hot water, which isn't that common across Peru. At €45/night, it was really good value, and at that point I would have given it five stars without hesitation. After the trek we spent two more nights in room 4. It was very dark, cold, and dated, with loose plug sockets, peeling paint, and not enough hot water. It cost the same as the previous room, which didn't make sense to me. It's a shame our second stay wasn't as good.

We stayed several nights at Kori Gems while traveling to and from Machu Picchu and other attractions around Cusco. The staff are lovely, and the hotel is excellent value for money.

The location is handy, with the center of old Cusco just a few minutes away on foot and lots of small, sophisticated restaurants nearby. The courtyard is beautiful, and our room was quiet and clean. The staff were so friendly and kind.
