The building has a lot of history, like the neighborhood around it. We’ve only just checked in, but the hospitality already seems first rate.

The staff were great and the service was good, but the hotel wasn't comfortable. Breakfast was very basic, though you can ask them to make eggs. Our upgraded room had no soundproofing, so we could hear the street and reception, and they could probably hear us too. It was fine during the day, but the noise went on all night, which made sleeping difficult for me as a light sleeper. Getting that room took a couple of tries: the first one had a sewer smell from a bathroom drainage problem, and the second had filthy shower curtains and an unbearable smell. We had booked through a travel agency.

The manager kept lying when we raised the problems and did nothing to address them. They still asked for an extra $50 USD even though our room had no hot water, only water that was lukewarm at best. We asked for a quiet room, but the one they gave us was noisy too, and you can hear everything throughout the hotel. The building is very old and badly needs renovation, and the bathroom smelled awful. Breakfast was the worst we saw on our three-week trip in Peru: yellowing cheese, one kind of fruit, bread, and ham that wasn't good at all. Don't go there.

Micheal has just taken over and is making lots of improvements. The beds and shower are great, and the location is good. The rooms are internal, with windows facing the corridor.

After our four-day Salkantay hike, they stored our bags for us, and the whole staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, and the showers felt great after a day exploring. You're just a couple of blocks from Plaza de Armas, and San Francisco Market and the famous San Pedro Market are an easy walk away. There's a free breakfast bar, and La Bodega 138 is right next door. For amazing Alpaca, try Uchu Peruvian Steakhouse.
