We first visited in 2018, and coming back to Muyuna this time felt just as special. Anthony made our trip, with his energy, deep knowledge, and sharp eye for wildlife. If he’s available, ask for him. We also found the private guide option, for a little extra, well worth it since it lets you shape the activities around what you like. The bungalows, setting, meals, and staff were all top notch.

We got to see the dolphins, macaws, and toucans we’d hoped for, and caimans were an extra surprise. Anthony kept us engaged and was helpful throughout, always guiding us toward what was coming next. The lodge was also excellent, with very good food, service, and facilities.

We did the 5 day, 4 night “Majestic River” trip in June 2026 and had a fantastic time. The mosquitoes were the one thing I could’ve done without, but I’d still tell anyone on the fence to go. It felt like a once in a lifetime experience, and everyone at Muyuna Amazon Lodge looked after us so well. The lodge itself was comfortable and well kept. Our bungalow had a bathroom with hot water, a bedroom with a bed, desk, bookshelf, lights, and several fans, plus a deck with hammocks and a couch. The bed was comfortable, and the fans kept us cool at night. They cleaned the room and left fresh towels each day. The main lodge had several pleasant places to sit, and the WiFi worked well there. Food was a highlight too. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were included every day, with fruit, bread, tea, and coffee always available. Everything tasted good, and there was plenty of fruit and vegetables for me and protein for my husband. We went at the start of June, right at the end of the wet season. The weather was mostly cloudy with a bit of morning rain, then usually sunny and hot by lunchtime. Each day had a four hour morning outing from 7:30am to 11:30 am, a two hour afternoon one from 3 to 5pm, and a one hour evening outing from 7:45 to 845 pm. These were boat rides and jungle walks. We were told the wet season means more boating, while the dry season brings more walks and a better chance of seeing land animals such as jaguars and anteaters, as well as animals near the ground. The tradeoff is more mosquito bites on walks. We had more boat outings and saw sloths, birds, monkeys, reptiles, dolphins, and capybara. The guides were incredible at finding animals I’d never have spotted. Francisco guided us and Myer drove the boat; both were fantastic. Francisco knew so much about the Amazon and every animal we saw or heard, and made sure we were comfortable. A note on packing: everything gets a little damp in the humidity, and you’ll sweat a lot. For five days, I’d take 3 pairs of lightweight long hiking pants, 3 lightweight quick dry long sleeve shirts, 2 or 3 lightweight quick dry short sleeve shirts, and at least 6 or 7 pairs of tall socks. That’s what I’d suggest if you want some clothes left by day 4 or 5 that aren’t too damp, sweaty, or smelly. Long pants and socks are useful most of the time to avoid bites, with long sleeves for hikes. Short sleeves were fine on the boat or while relaxing indoors. They provide a bin and detergent for laundry, but the quick dry shirt I washed never fully dried in the humidity, so I wouldn’t count on washing clothes.

The excursions were the part that stayed with us most, and we came home with memories for life. Moises was a thoughtful, engaging guide who knew a lot and stayed curious. We couldn’t have asked for a better one. Everything else was handled well too. Planning was easy, the staff responded quickly and accommodated us, and the transfer between Iquitos Airport or Iquitos City and the lodge was comfortable and efficient. The drivers shared useful information along the way. The accommodations and food were wonderful, and Muyuna Lodge ranks among the best hosts we’ve had on our many trips. If you’re ready for an Amazon trip, I’d strongly recommend booking with them.

I spent 4 days, 3 nights on Muyuna’s Fresh Water package. It costs more than other agencies and local guides, but from what I gathered, it’s deeper in the Amazon than most places and has a reputation as one of the best. For me, it was worth every dollar, and I felt well looked after. The excursions were amazing. I was with Francisco, the legend, whose knowledge of the animals, plants, and Amazon ecosystem was huge. He could spot wildlife in seconds, while I could have kept searching for another hour and missed it. We saw venomous snakes, hand-sized tarantulas, reptiles, big and small monkeys, sloths, pink dolphins, lizards, iguanas, countless birds, and piranhas. We fished for piranhas on one of the daily outings, and I caught a huge one. They say anacondas and jaguars are around too, but seeing them comes down to luck. My private bungalow had a double bed, bathroom, shower, and balcony. It was clean, maintained well, and cleaned daily. Towels weren’t replaced if I left them off the floor. The sink and shower water comes straight from the river, so don’t drink it or brush your teeth with it. There’s clean water in a separate bathroom container for brushing, and cold drinking water in the dining area. Meals were part of the price, along with transport to and from the city and 3-4 excursions a day and night, by boat or on foot. Breakfast was my favorite, with cereal and omelets. When you book, they ask about allergies and vegetarian or gluten-free preferences. The lodge follows an ecological approach, with recycling bins and solar power for electricity and hot water. Wi-Fi is available, though it gets weaker farther from the dining area. Charging is only possible in the dining area, since rooms have no outlets. They picked me up at my hotel, though airport pickup is also available, and their office is near the plaza. Getting there took about an hour and a half by car, including a stop near the end at a gas station with toilets and a small shop, followed by about another hour by boat through the Amazon. I arrived during a quiet spell, so there weren’t many tourists, and a few times I had a private tour with just me and the guide.
