Allpa Hotel & Suites

The checkout was the worst part. Staff said I couldn't begin until my husband was away from the room, even though he was just waiting by the elevator with our bags. Once he was in the lobby, they showed us a photo of a broken TV remote and blamed our toddler. We hadn't broken it or even used the TV during our one-night stay, and our child was always supervised. They still insisted we pay 50 soles for a replacement. At check-in, there had also been confusing changes to the VAT charge, which we understood shouldn't apply because we aren't Peruvian residents. Allpa used to be our preferred Lima stay, so this was disappointing. We won't return or recommend it.

By the morning of checkout, the toilet in my room had stopped flushing. Before that, the faucet barely had any pressure and only ran scalding hot, while the AC in the replacement room turned on but blew no cold air. They first gave me a room with broken AC and didn't mention it, though there was a fan in the room. On our first night they tried to put us in a tiny efficiency room that smelled moldy. After we complained, one of us got a better room, but my travel partner had to stay in the first one until the next day. When I raised these issues at checkout, it didn't seem to matter, and a younger staff member laughed about something else as I walked away. I wouldn't recommend staying here. The four-star Hilton around the corner might be worth the extra money.

We made good use of the water refill station in the lobby, and the staff were really nice. The hotel is in Miraflores, which felt safe to us when we walked around in the afternoons and evenings. There's a lovely park nearby and plenty of restaurants. Our room was clean, and breakfast included things like eggs, sausage or other meat, toast, pastries, and cereal. The Japanese restaurant in the hotel was handy for a meal when we were tired after excursions. I'd recommend staying here.

We ate at the hotel restaurant and were given breakfast each day. The food was decent, I liked the juice choices, and the decor was lovely. As a visitor from another country, I found Lima a little sketchy, so it's hard for me to judge safety. Miraflores seemed nice by the city's standards, though, and despite all the bars on ground floors around town, I didn't really feel unsafe.
