Hotel Diamond Lima

The room at Hotel Diamond Lima was clean, had a view, and even came with Netflix. Before breakfast around 8am, we watched “The Valet.” We arrived at about 6am and paid an extra $21USD for early check-in, which included breakfast. Surprisingly, that on-site deal was cheaper than the $70 SGD we’d paid online, a real bargain with breakfast included. A good-value hotel in the old city. The location is very good, and the staff were lovely and helpful.

The hotel advertises a $20 taxi ride to and from the airport with a clear sign at reception. We chose to use it for our trip there, but the driver simply told us it would cost $30 instead. That’s unacceptable.

The area has useful things nearby: a currency exchange and bodega around the corner across from Scotiabank, plus shops, food, and Lima Plaza within walking distance. The hotel can arrange airport transportation for $20USD/80Sol. In the room, I appreciated the hair dryer and mini fridge, and there’s a free water refill station, coffee, and tea on the 4th floor. Front desk staff were nice and helpful. But the mattress was hard, the pillows flat, and road noise and honking were VERY loud and constant. Getting proper sleep here was unfortunately impossible for me. I also felt uneasy when someone entered my room while I was out, even though I’d left the do not disturb sign up. They didn’t clean or make the bed, but the chair and pillows had been moved, the curtains were open, and my suitcase was shifted. Nothing seemed to be missing. I don’t know if someone got in or housekeeping ignored the sign and moved things without cleaning, but I was glad I’d locked up my belongings.
