For 5€ a night I wasn’t expecting much, just a clean room and hot water, even if the room was poor. The facilities were the biggest letdown. At first the staff seemed nice, but I changed my mind after the last two days had no hot water. When I asked the woman to deal with it, she only said there should be hot water. The cat pee and damp smell was overwhelming, and the open layout made the place freezing. The shower in the hall had no roof, so picture taking a cold shower in 13'C. With warm water, that might have been okay. There were holes in the walls, whether they were built that way or appeared over time, and my old window didn’t shut properly. Cold night air came through the gaps. There was no laundry service, so I couldn’t wash my smelly clothes. After a day or two they smelled really bad, and the hostel odor clung to you. Rimac itself isn’t the safest neighborhood, though I found the hostel worse. I walked around at night around 19-20 and was okay as long as I stuck to certain streets.
