Happy Tree Hostel Peru

I stayed here at the end of November 2019, supposedly during its first month of operations. I don't think the owners and operators were honest about what happened. On my second day, I went to explore Barranco and came back to find my room had been broken into. My camera equipment, worth almost $2000, had been locked in a locker, which was broken when I returned. The owner drove me to the police station to report it. They said another guest had booked for the night, robbed the place, and never came back. The owner also said they had insurance and would pay for my equipment. After I left Peru two weeks later, the owner stopped answering my calls and emails, even though they'd previously replied about the insurance claim. The last time someone else called, they were told it wasn't their problem. It felt like they waited until I had left Peru to avoid taking responsibility. Almost a year later, I still hadn't been compensated for my belongings, which were in their care when the hostel was robbed. I'd avoid this place.
