Hitchhikers Lima Hostel

The location is pretty good, and camping in the parking area was a nice option. It cost 18 Soles, just $2 less than a dorm bed. The problem was breakfast. At check-in they said camping included all services, breakfast too. They served it for two days, then on day three said it wasn't included and refused to give it to me. The hostel has more than 10 rooms with multiple beds but only three bathrooms. In the mornings you almost always have to wait, even for a quick bathroom visit. With so few bathrooms, they're usually wet and the toilet paper keeps running out.

We had no issues apart from the water. It took a while to come through, and when it did, it was warm rather than hot. This is a pretty typical backpackers hostel, and it felt quite expensive for what they offer, though maybe that's just because everything in Lima costs more.

For about US$25 for one night, I had a private bathroom, which is pretty cheap if you don't need extras. My room had no window and wasn't clean, but at least the bathroom had hot water. When you're tired and sleepy, you fall asleep anyway.

The beds were clean and the hostel felt secure, but I felt less welcome here than at any other hostel I've stayed in. The staff generally seemed surly and unhappy, and the woman running breakfast was outright rude. I wouldn't recommend hitchhikers when there are so many friendlier, more welcoming places just a short walk away.
